Review

I Am Jesus Christ is the kind of game that lives or dies on tone. You can’t bluff your way through the subject matter with flashy combat or busy systems, so the moment-to-moment experience has to feel respectful, coherent, and intentional. At its best, it plays like a slow, curated walk through familiar stories, with a clear focus on place and atmosphere. The strongest scenes are the ones that let you take in a location, listen, and move forward without the game constantly demanding inputs.
The miracle sequences are the obvious hook, and they can work if they’re treated as meaningful moments rather than minigames. Interactivity here should feel like participation, not “press button to progress.” When the game keeps the camera calm and the pacing steady, it does a decent job of keeping you in the story instead of pulling you out of it.
There are a couple of risks baked into the design. First, linear storytelling can feel flat if it’s too guided. If you’re always being nudged to the next marker, the sense of pilgrimage turns into a checklist. Second, a game like this needs strong presentation, good voice work, stable performance, and clean transitions between scenes. Small rough edges stand out more when the experience is quiet.
Still, the idea is unusual enough that it doesn’t need to chase spectacle. It just needs to deliver a thoughtful journey with consistent craft.
Verdict: A slow, narrative-first retelling that hinges on atmosphere and restraint, and works best when it treats interactivity as presence, not busywork.
