Dragonkin: The Banished
Dragonkin: The Banished releases March 16, 2026 on PC and March 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Eko Software and published by Nacon, it’s an isometric action RPG set in a world ruined by draconic corruption, where you pick from four hero classes and hunt down Dragon Lords through biome-hopping zones. The standout system is its Ancestral Grid, a loot-driven build board where you slot skills and modifiers to shape your character’s power curve, while the hub city of Montescail evolves alongside your progress and feeds into your endgame loop.

Review

Dragonkin: The Banished wants to be a comfortable, repeatable ARPG: big packs, fast clears, satisfying loot spikes, and a build system that keeps you tinkering even when you should be logging off. Its best idea is the Ancestral Grid. It turns buildcraft into something you can literally lay out, mixing skills and modifiers like a puzzle that keeps changing as new drops appear. When you hit a good combo, the game feels immediately better, not just numerically stronger.
Combat is straightforward but solid. Attacks have weight, enemy groups read cleanly from the isometric camera, and the game is at its most fun when it’s pushing you to make quick positioning decisions while you keep your rotation tight. Co-op support helps here. These games often shine when someone else is drawing aggro, covering a flank, or simply sharing the chaos so it feels like a party instead of a treadmill.
The city progression adds a nice layer of purpose. Montescail isn’t just a menu hub. It’s framed as something you grow, which makes your runs feel like they’re feeding a larger effort. That said, the game’s long-term appeal will come down to endgame variety and pacing. If activities start to blur together, the grid can’t carry everything on its own. There’s also the usual ARPG tuning risk: if loot is too generous, builds become disposable; too stingy, and experimentation dies.
Verdict: A smart build-driven ARPG with a genuinely fun grid system, strongest when it keeps the loot and endgame pace tight enough to support constant experimentation.
