Kingdoms of the Dump launched on November 18, 2025 for PC (Steam). It is developed by Roach Games, Dream Sloth Games and published by Roach Games. A SNES‑style JRPG in a world built from trash, it follows Dustin Binsley, the Trash Can Knight, across the Five and a Half Kingdoms. Turn‑based, grid‑aware combat with timed hits, platforming segments, and no random encounters give it a nostalgic feel with modern pacing.

Review

The pitch is straightforward: classic JRPG heart with a few carefully chosen upgrades. Battles read cleanly thanks to tile highlights and crisp timing windows, and skills chain in ways that reward rehearsal. Towns are dense with small jokes and item interactions, which keeps the junkyard aesthetic from wearing thin. The soundtrack leans bright and percussive, and the pixel art sells texture: rusted cans, rubber stacks, flickering bulbs. Dungeons bend toward puzzle rooms rather than long gauntlets, so backtracking stays light.
Limitations are familiar. Dialogue can run long in a few scenes, and some platforming bits feel exacting on a keyboard. Performance is a non‑issue on modern PCs. What matters is tone, and this one finds warmth without irony. If you grew up on 16‑bit adventures, this is a sturdy return.
Verdict
A confident retro RPG with smart combat and a charming trash‑world.
