The Last Caretaker
The Last Caretaker launched on November 6, 2025 for PC (Steam, Early Access). It was developed and published by Channel37 Ltd. You awaken as a machine tasked with protecting humanity’s last hope on a drowned Earth, sailing between derelict facilities to salvage tech, craft weapons, and defend incubators from hostile automatons. The loop blends base upkeep, exploration across open water, and modular upgrades that push you deeper into the ruins.

Review

Caretaker focuses on systems that reinforce its theme, survival through maintenance and smart resource routes. You manage energy grids, craft from reclaimed scrap, and decide when to risk combat for rare parts. Sailing between sites punctuates the pace, a calmer stretch before the next raid or defense sequence. Weapon crafting and platform upgrades show clear gains, and the world has enough mystery to pull you toward the next lab or launch pad.
Combat is readable and reactive, though early gear can feel spongy against tougher enemies. The UI is dense in places, and inventory flow could use trimming, common for Early Access. Performance is solid on mid-range hardware, with occasional drops during heavy effects, and the audio work sells the deserted ocean well. As an EA opener, the structure is already coherent: explore, salvage, fortify, launch.
Verdict: thoughtful survival on a drowned Earth, strong systems now with room to refine.
