The Outlast Trials
The Outlast Trials left Early Access on March 5, 2024 for PC (Steam), with console versions following. Made by Red Barrels, this one takes the series into co‑op. You and up to three friends survive Murkoff’s brainwashing “therapy,” improvise with limited tools, and try not to panic when the plan falls apart.

Review

Trials keeps the Outlast DNA, then stretches it into a social panic. Stealth is still the spine, but now one player scouts while another lures, and a third patches wounds. Tools are small but meaningful. A single stun buys a turn, night‑vision burns battery at the worst moment, and a closed door is never safety for long.
Objectives split longer sessions into clean beats. You cross cramped arenas, grab items under pressure, then risk a detour for intel. The sound design does most of the heavy lifting, turning distant footsteps into bad decisions. Runs that go wrong are the best ones. Someone panics, the route changes, and the escape feels earned.
Caveats: solo is viable but thinner, and public lobbies can tilt chaotic when players skip comms. On PC, frame pacing is fine, though dense fog and heavy AI counts can hitch on midrange cards. Still, the loop holds. Plan quiet, expect loud.
Verdict: sharp co‑op horror that thrives on close calls.
