The Last of Us Part II Remastered
The Last of Us Part II Remastered came out on January 19, 2024 for PlayStation 5. A PC version followed on March 21, 2025, bringing the sequel outside consoles for the first time. Naughty Dog rebuilt the game with higher resolution textures, smoother framerates, and small extras that make it more than a simple port.
This chapter returns to Ellie. Years after the original, she sets out on a revenge path that pulls her across a ruined America. Cities are hollow, forests hide dangers, and every human settlement feels on edge. Combat shifts between creeping through tall grass with a knife in hand and sudden bursts of violence where bullets and molotovs burn through scarce supplies. Between the chaos, the game still finds room for quieter beats: Ellie strumming a guitar, small conversations about the past, or just watching the light break across empty streets. It’s survival horror mixed with intimate character drama, and the push and pull is what defines the experience.

Review
The Last of Us Part II Remastered revisits one of the most polarizing modern titles with sharper performance and some fresh additions. The 200-hour debate around its story hasn’t gone away, but the remaster makes the moment-to-moment action cleaner. Animations hit harder, aiming feels more precise, and the lighting work enhances the already moody presentation. Los Angeles is a highlight, dense with detail and now running at a smoother 60fps.
Stealth remains the backbone. You crouch through grass, improvise weapons, and watch as enemies coordinate in unsettling ways. Once things break down, melee swings and gunfire carry a raw weight. The AI pushes back relentlessly, sometimes clumsy, often cruel, and rarely letting you settle. For some players the constant pressure can feel exhausting, yet it’s also what sets the game apart.
New content helps. “No Return,” the roguelike survival mode, cuts away narrative and doubles down on systems, encouraging experimentation with multiple characters and loadouts. Developer commentary rounds it out, giving a behind-the-scenes look at one of the medium’s most debated stories.
Performance on PS5 is solid, with instant restarts and near-invisible loading. A few textures still show their age, but overall polish is high.
Verdict: brutal, uncompromising, and still divisive, this remaster strengthens an already unforgettable game.
