WILL: Follow The Light is aiming for a grounded kind of tension that a lot of narrative games skip. It doesn’t sell danger through constant enemies or loud set pieces. It sells it through travel. The promise is that the world is harsh, routes matter, and getting somewhere is an achievement on its own.
That design can be compelling when it’s handled with restraint. A journey game needs strong pacing and sensory detail, the creak of a boat, the monotony of water, the way weather turns a plan into a problem. If the game keeps you making small, meaningful choices, what to carry, when to push forward, when to stop, it can create a quiet pressure that feels personal.
The challenge is avoiding “simulated boredom.” Realism only works when the game knows what to compress and what to linger on. Too much friction and players feel stuck. Too little and the journey becomes a pretty hallway. TomorrowHead’s background in realistic visuals helps, but the experience still needs clear goals and a rhythm that doesn’t stall.
