The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker releases September 2, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Rebel Wolves and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it is an open-world dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th-century Europe, where Coen lives as a man by day and a vampire by night. The setup gives every choice a nasty edge: save your family, chase revenge, spend precious time on side problems, or let the world change because you were not there to stop it.

Review

The Blood of Dawnwalker has a clean hook, and it is the kind that can actually change how an RPG feels. Coen is not just a vampire with a skill tree. He is split between two states, and the game is built around the tension of what you can do during the day versus what you become at night. That gives the world a natural rhythm, and rhythm is something open-world RPGs badly need.
The time pressure is the most interesting part. A family in danger, a villain moving forward, and quests that consume time can turn routine decisions into real tradeoffs. You might help a stranger because it feels right, but doing so could cost you progress elsewhere. That is where the game can separate itself from checklist design. The best choices are not good or evil. They are inconvenient.
Combat has room to shine if the human and vampire sides feel meaningfully different. Daytime should reward planning, social leverage, and caution. Night should feel more dangerous, powerful, and morally messy. If the game keeps those loops distinct, buildcraft and exploration will have more bite.
The caveat is ambition. Choice-heavy RPGs can promise a living world and then fold back into familiar quest markers. Dawnwalker needs consequences that players can feel, not just hear about in dialogue. It also needs strong quest pacing, because a constant ticking clock can become stressful in the wrong way.
Verdict: A dark fantasy RPG with a strong identity and a genuinely useful day-night hook, with its impact depending on whether choices reshape the world in visible, uncomfortable ways.
