Konami unveils Wai Wai World Craft, game creation project for PC, iOS, and Android

Konami is stepping back into the maker space with Wai Wai World Craft, a user-generated game platform in development for PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. Framed as a “game-creation project,” it blends a conversational creation flow with a deeper editor, so newcomers can prototype quickly while experienced builders tweak the nuts and bolts. The business model is free to play with item-based microtransactions and an optional subscription, and while there’s no release date yet, the pitch is clear: create, publish, and play bite-sized games on phones, tablets, or desktop—no heavy toolchain required. First details and platform notes were shared in today’s reveal on Gematsu, including mention of an AI-assisted Magic Pod for natural-language building and a more traditional World Editor for full control.

Wai Wai is a name with history—Konami’s 1988 crossover pulled heroes from across the publisher’s catalog—and this new project leans into that lineage by allowing recognizable characters to appear as player avatars or enemies inside user creations. In practical terms, that gives creators a ready-made palette of crowd-pleasers without forcing them to build everything from scratch, and it gives Konami a curated way to surface its back catalog to a younger audience. If the sharing layer is slick and the discovery feed is tuned, you can picture a loop where simple, comedic mash-ups sit alongside more ambitious community showcases, all running on everyday devices.

The devil is in the ecosystem. A sustainable UGC platform lives or dies on moderation tools, template quality, and how quickly a user can go from idea to something playable; the split between Magic Pod and World Editor suggests Konami is designing for both ends of that spectrum. Questions still to be answered include cross-platform publishing, revenue splits (if any), and how aggressively Konami plans to expand the pool of characters and tilesets post-launch. For now, the headline is straightforward: a modern Wai Wai sandbox with official characters, built for phones and PCs, and a plan to lower the barrier to making your own games.
