Final Fantasy XVI
Released on PlayStation 5 in June 2023, then on PC in September 2024 and Xbox Series X|S in June 2025, Final Fantasy XVI is an action-heavy entry that drops the turn-based tradition for a visceral, real-time rhythm of swords, magic, and destructive summons—called Eikons. Clive Rosfield’s quest pulls you into a landscape torn by crystal-fueled power plays and deep suffering. The Complete Edition brings more: the two DLC expansions (Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide) plus bonus gear and orchestral tracks. It feels like a full season of TV—this game didn’t just sneak in extras.

Review

Final Fantasy XVI never slows down for decorum—it charges straight into its own darkness. Clive sweeps through enemies and Eikon clashes with a blunt force that feels earned, not choreographed. Battles demand urgency. Strong, visceral, and packed with brutal flair.
Valisthea’s beauty is a performance of tension—crystal towers frame conflict, and the land is straining under oppression and decay. Clive’s grief and drive feel real. He isn’t a hero simply bound by destiny; he’s pulled by loss and choice.
The DLCs don’t dilute the tone. Echoes of the Fallen sends you into a toxic tower that echoes with old power. The Rising Tide wades into Leviathan’s tragedy. Both deepen the world and tighten the emotional creases, with mini stories that stayed with me long after they ended.
Flaws? The story can shove you into lore before you’re ready. Some characters flatter archetype, making big statements more than believable people. But that messiness fits—it’s a world frayed by empire, not polished by poster art.
Verdict: A bold, blood-toned epic that refuses simplification—bigger in all the right ways.
