Review

BLACKWOOD’s most interesting idea is not simply that its protagonist owns a DVD store. The shop acts as the quiet half of a double life, giving the player something ordinary to maintain between increasingly violent contracts.
Store management includes stocking inventory, organizing shelves, setting prices, and serving customers. Players can handle those systems directly or allow some of the work to operate automatically, making the shop either a significant management activity or a lighter source of income.
Night missions are far more physical. Movement includes slides, rolls, and dives, while gunplay is designed to remain quick at close range. Contextual takedowns let the protagonist use nearby objects and environments during executions, giving fights more variety than repeating one melee animation.
The contrast should also help pacing. Returning to the apartment and store after a violent mission creates space for clothing changes, decorating, purchases, and story interactions before the next descent into New York’s criminal world.
Presentation is strongly cinematic, but the game still needs enough control to keep its action from feeling overly scripted. The shop is another potential pressure point. If profits or upgrades have little effect on later missions, half of the central concept could become optional busywork.
PC specifications are also still effectively unannounced, with Steam currently providing no usable hardware details.
Verdict: A stylish action thriller whose combination of brutal contract work and mundane DVD-store management gives its familiar assassin premise a much stronger identity.
