Ascend to ZERO releases July 13, 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Developed by Flyway Games, Inc. and published by Flyway Games, Inc. and KRAFTON, Inc., it is a time-bending action roguelike where every second is something you can spend, freeze, or weaponize. You fight up through a cyberpunk-styled tower with skills, chips, weapons, and stat upgrades that turn each run into a new argument about whether you want speed, range, survivability, or one glass-cannon build that probably should not work but somehow does.

Review

Ascend to ZERO has a good roguelike hook because time control is not just a visual gimmick. It changes how a fight is supposed to feel. When you can freeze or bend the tempo, enemy pressure becomes something you manage rather than something you only dodge. The best version of this game is one where a messy screen still feels readable because you always have one more small window to turn panic into a plan.
The build system sounds broad enough to support that. Skills, chips, abilities, weapons, and stat upgrades give players several ways to define a run, which is exactly what a roguelike needs. The fun is not just becoming stronger. It is discovering that a strange combination suddenly makes sense, then chasing that feeling again on the next attempt.
Combat will need real clarity. Bullet hell and hack-and-slash systems can clash if the camera, enemy tells, and effects do not stay clean. If attacks become visual noise, the time mechanic will feel like a rescue button instead of a smart tool. If the feedback is sharp, freezing a bad situation and cutting through it could feel fantastic.
The other caveat is progression pacing. Roguelikes live on failure feeling useful. If permanent upgrades come too slowly, runs feel disposable. If they come too fast, the challenge fades.
Verdict: A promising time-control roguelike with a strong central mechanic, with success depending on readable combat and run variety that keeps its power curve interesting.
