IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator
IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator releases on August 6, 2026, for PC. Developed and published by Nick Nieuwoudt and Dominik Latos, this first-person artillery simulator places the player inside a colossal dieselpunk war machine controlled through physical terminals, mechanical switches, targeting equipment, and heavy hydraulic systems. As an Operator serving High Command, players receive battlefield coordinates, calculate firing solutions, load ammunition, align enormous guns, manage damaged machinery, and decide how closely they intend to follow increasingly questionable orders.

Review

IRON NEST turns operating a turret into a full mechanical process rather than reducing artillery fire to pointing at a marker and pressing a button. Every successful shot begins inside the machine, where coordinates must be interpreted, systems powered, ammunition prepared, and heavy guns aligned through separate controls.
The appeal comes from learning the sequence. Early mistakes may produce inaccurate shots or leave crucial equipment offline, but familiarity gradually turns a confusing collection of terminals into a machine the player understands. That sense of mastery should make landing a distant hit more satisfying than conventional shooter combat.
Battlefield information also matters. Players need to identify targets, estimate their position, choose suitable ammunition, and react when orders or conditions change. The turret’s restricted interior creates tension because the Operator cannot simply run outside and solve every problem directly. Damage, warning sirens, and failing systems must be handled from within the steel nest.
Its dieselpunk presentation gives the machinery real character. Large handles, analog displays, industrial lighting, and exaggerated artillery systems make the turret feel like an occupied workplace rather than a normal vehicle cockpit.
The deliberately manual design will not suit everyone. Repeating the same operating sequence could become tiring during longer sessions, particularly for players expecting constant action. The quality of the campaign will also depend on how often new complications force players to rethink familiar procedures.
Verdict: A tactile artillery simulator that makes calculation, machinery, and disciplined preparation as important as the final shot.
