MECCHA CHAMELEON works because the joke becomes a skill test almost immediately. At first, you paint yourself badly, hide in plain sight, and laugh when a seeker walks past you anyway. Then the game starts getting competitive. You learn which colors hold up under lighting, which poses sell the illusion, and when it is smarter to hide badly in a dumb place than perfectly in the spot everyone checks first.
The hider side is the star. Painting your body gives the game a handmade, messy quality that most prop-hunt style games do not have. You are not just turning into a chair. You are making a disguise under pressure, and every bad brush stroke is part of the comedy. The seeker role works best when it becomes a paranoia simulator. Is that corner wrong? Did that shape move? Are you about to waste precious seconds inspecting a wall because your friend sounds too confident?
Its biggest strength is how readable the rules are. Rounds are short, the objective is obvious, and the 2-10 player setup makes it easy to turn into a stream or party game. The caveat is depth. Like many viral social games, it depends heavily on friends, map variety, and regular updates. Solo public lobbies can swing from hilarious to flat depending on the group. Still, when the room is active and people are buying into the bit, it lands hard.
