Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases October 23, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Infinity Ward with support from Beenox and Digital Legends and published by Activision, it brings the Modern Warfare line into current-generation hardware only, with a campaign spanning Korea, New York, Paris, Mumbai, and other flashpoints. Multiplayer is pitched around grounded handling, cleaner visibility, no hipfire bloom, and a returning DMZ layer built for extraction pressure rather than pure arena routine.

Review

Modern Warfare 4 sounds like a course correction toward the part of Call of Duty that works best when the noise is under control. The official pitch is not about hyper-mobility or turning every fight into a slide-cancel circus. It is about weapon handling, visibility, stance, audio, and making shots feel honest. That matters. A fast shooter can still be grounded if the information is clean and players understand why they won or lost an exchange.
The campaign setup is broad, but it has a clear throughline: a war on the Korean Peninsula and Captain Price operating in the shadows as the conflict spreads. Call of Duty campaigns live on rhythm. You need large set pieces, sure, but the quieter missions are often what make the loud ones hit harder. Night raids, close-quarters clears, and chase sequences can work if the game gives them distinct pacing instead of making every mission feel like the same sprint.
Multiplayer is where the long tail lives. Removing last-gen support should help map density, response, and clarity, but it also raises expectations. Players will expect strong netcode, clean spawning, tight weapon balance, and a DMZ mode that gives extraction fans a real reason to return. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is also a major test, because parity and performance will matter if cross-platform play is part of the wider plan.
The caveat is familiar: Call of Duty can drown its best ideas in menus, seasonal pressure, and unlock noise.
Verdict: A promising current-gen reset for Modern Warfare, strongest if its grounded gunplay and DMZ revival stay clean, readable, and less cluttered than recent entries.
