Review

Half Sword is about intent and impact. Fights read like sparring sessions gone wrong, timing, distance, and edge alignment matter more than button mashing. The mouse‑directed swings feel deliberate, shields actually catch blows, and opponents buckle when weight and angle line up. The arena structure keeps encounters focused, with wagers and gear progression feeding a clean loop of risk, upgrade, return. Animation work sells heft without mud, and the gore system, while extreme, makes armor choice and strike placement meaningful rather than decoration.

The cadence leans on duels and small brawls, which fits the simulation focus, though players expecting long story arcs may find the framing light. Camera management can get busy in tighter pits, and performance will be a factor on lower‑end rigs given the physics load. Still, when a parry rolls into a riposte and a helm rings like a bell, the feedback is undeniable. With Early Access plans for maps, forge tools and heraldry, the sandbox has room to deepen.
