Hollow Knight: Silksong had a massive start on PC. On Steam, it quickly climbed past 587,000 concurrent players just a few days after launch. That’s a huge number for an indie release and puts it among the biggest of the year. Reviews have been largely positive, with many players saying the sequel feels like a real step up — faster combat, smoother movement, and still keeping the hand-drawn charm that made Hollow Knight stand out.
PlayStation struggles to keep pace
While PC numbers were booming, the PlayStation version told a different story. Analyst Mat Piscatella pointed out that in the US, Silksong represented less than 1% of engagement on Sony’s platform and only reached 55th place overall. As GamesRadar reported, Xbox saw far stronger numbers, with the game breaking into the top 15 thanks in part to Game Pass.
Some players believe part of the problem on PlayStation came from visibility. Reports suggested that the store page wasn’t properly updated during launch week, leaving Silksong harder to find when the hype was at its peak. Unlike Steam, where charts and community reviews spread momentum quickly, the PlayStation Store relies heavily on front-page placement — and the game may not have had it in those crucial first days.
What comes next for Team Cherry
If the PlayStation Store gets fixed and updates roll out quicker, the gap might start to close. Word of mouth could also help, as more players share their experiences outside of PC. For now though, Silksong is clearly shining brightest on Steam, where it’s already one of 2025’s biggest indie debuts. PlayStation fans, on the other hand, are still waiting for the game to catch up to the buzz happening elsewhere.
