Online: 404 releases on September 25, 2026, for PC. Developed and published by Cornfield Games, this open-world survival simulator strands players inside the quarantined Leminsgale District and asks them to survive using objects and knowledge that make sense in a contemporary setting. A smartphone provides maps, weather forecasts, a flashlight, advertisements, and an in-game Internet used to research solutions, while scavenging, hunting, farming, shelter reinforcement, vehicle restoration, pets, hostile former residents, four playable characters, story missions, and online co-op support either a focused campaign or open-ended survival.

Review

Online: 404 is built around rejecting some of survival gaming’s stranger conventions. A modern person trapped inside an abandoned district is unlikely to begin by mining ore and forging primitive tools, so the game instead encourages players to reuse existing technology and infrastructure.
The smartphone is central to that idea. Its in-game Internet can be used to research practical solutions, while maps, weather information, a flashlight, and less helpful digital distractions make the device part of everyday survival rather than a menu dressed as a phone.
Scavenging follows the same logic. If a shelter needs electricity, stealing an existing solar panel is more believable than crafting one from raw minerals. Car doors and body panels can reinforce wooden walls, while abandoned vehicles can eventually be restored for transportation across Leminsgale.
Hunting, farming, pets, exploration, and base construction provide longer-term progression. The story investigates why the quarantined residents lost their minds, giving players a reason to enter dangerous areas beyond gathering supplies.
Solo and online co-op share the same environment, with four characters offering different starting statistics and equipment. This should encourage some specialization when playing with friends.
The realism-focused philosophy could occasionally work against convenience. Systems that intentionally resist familiar survival shortcuts need clear feedback or they may simply feel obtuse. Enemy variety will also matter once a secure shelter and reliable transport are established.
Verdict: A clever modern survival game that replaces primitive crafting clichés with scavenged technology, practical improvisation, and a smartphone that genuinely matters.
